Camera Awesome - App review

Original picture of my gerbil

Camera Awesome is one of these camera replacement apps that include lots of filters for later editing. Just like the more famous brothers "Pro Camera" and "Camera+".
Smugmug, the creators of  Camera Awesome, decided to make a freemium app out of it, in order to become a significant rival to the other already successful apps. My only problem now is, that it isn't actually free. You get a basic filter set (which is quite nice) but have to pay for each new set consisting of 9 filters. If you want to get all the filters and effects, you need to pay 8€, which is in my opinion way too much for what you will get from such an app.

So i decided to give it a shot and played around with it for a while. For my first example i used a picture from my gerbil. His name is Jerry and i promised him that he would get sooner or later on this blog, so this is your time to shine Jerry! Unfortunately, Jerry is the only thing that shines when i look at the outcome. Most of these filters look the same in my opinion. And some of them are even way to over-/desaturated.

This is why i didnt sign Jerry up at the next "Germany's Next Top Model" and used an awesome picture of some guy. I didnt think Camera Awesome would awesomize this guy any better, but the results here are actually far better than the first one. Some effects are really cool and totally fit to this kind of picture.

My thoughts on Camera Awesome:
Even though there are some really nice filters and effects in this app, there is just one thing that keeps me from recommending it: it is freemium! This is probably something personal, but i really don't like freemium apps at all! Most of the time you feel like you made a great deal but instead you wasted much more money for less content after doing some in-app purchases. And in this case, you have to spend 8€ for ALL its features.
Now i'm not saying that the filters are bad. There are some really great effects there but another problem is, that in one pack out of 9 filters there are maybe 1-2 which i find really cool. And i dont want to buy the whole package just for these 2 filters, especially when there are also 1-2 cool ones in the next package which i would have to buy seperatley.

Ps: Once again sorry that the text on the screenshot is german, i hope this is not a problem for you.
