iPhoneography travel tips

If you enjoy travelling as much as i do, then you probably also want to bring some good pictures home. And since you want to get the most out of them, i thought i might share with you a few things i have learned the hard way on my trips.

1. Find the best spots.
Well sounds like an easy question, doesnt it? But if your answer would be "ask google" then you might be wrong. Because who knows their country better than you or google? The local people. So dont be afraid to walk up to them and ask them where the better and less touristy places are. Especially the older people, who like to go hiking to lonely places. Since they probably have spent their childhood looking for the coolest spots in their region instead of looking up cat videos on youtube, they are your biggest help.

2. Dont run around just for your pictures.
If you just travel somewhere to take pictures, you arent going to enjoy your trip. Try to keep your iPhone in your pocket for a while and just embrace nature. Now i dont want you to hug a cactus, but you should get my point. By running constantly around with a camera in your hand, you ruin your own trip. Moreover, you might even miss out on some great spots.

3. Get some accessories.
Ever wanted to take some underwater pictures when you were at the beach? A friend of mine once wanted to do that so bad, he decided to pull a condom over his smartphone, in order to take it under water. Beside the fact that this was a really stupid idea, the pictures also got blurry and had a bad quality over all. But thanks to technology, you can now take perfect underwater pictures and dont need to have another reason to fear broken condoms! For example the "Escape Capsule" seems to be a go all-rounder, since it will protect your iPhone from water (max 2 meters deep), mud, sand, snow and might even save your display when you let it fall.

 4. The perfect time for a perfect picture.
Another parameter you have to think about before going outside to take pictures, is the right time. There are several reasons for doing so, for example other tourists. If you choose the wrong time, your beautiful scene might be filled with other people that had the same idea like you. If the weather is supposed to get worse over the day, that very day can be your lucky one. Other tourists will rather stay at their own place. Also, often the clearest sky and the bright sun might just destroy the perfect mood of your picture. Of course this isnt always the case, but why dont you try to go out when the sun is already about to go down?

5. Have confidence.
Dont be afraid of walking up to strangers and ask them if you can take a picture of them. The worst that can happen is a "no". We would all love to make portraits of strangers from another culture, and most people are willing to cooperate with you as long as you are friendly and not too persistent. And if you ask them before just taking a picture out of nowhere, their smile will be even more natural and honest.
