645 Pro - App review

When 645 Pro was announced, iphoneographers all around the world knew that this app would change something. Just the fact that it is able to export a .tiff-file (an uncompressed version of your picture) would open new doors for professionals. So what are the key features of this hyped app?

  • All the settings are accessable instantly from your camera. There are no layers of menu that you have to crawl through in order to change your preferences.
  • Take lossless .JPEG Pictures at max-quality and .TIFF files with no visible compression artefacts.
  • Great nightmode: in low light conditions the night mode goes up to 1 second, allowing your iphone to absorb all the light infront of your lense.
  • Live-preview and onscreen display: here you can see all the relevant information (iso, shutter, etc).
  • 5 commonly known medium-format ratios.
  • A white-balance-lock, focus-/exposure settings, and a self-timer.

Standart Camera App (unedited)

645 Pro (unedited)

My thoughts on 645 Pro:
First, i was really sceptical whether this app would live up to its hype or not. But just the fact that you can now export .tiff and lossless JPEG's makes 645 Pro an amazing standart camera replacement app. Even the fact that you can't use the volume button to take a picture is not a real problem, since the onscreen-button is well placed. Also, since i always have to insert a password to unlock my phone (been doing this since my last one got stolen), i can't simply instantly go to 645 Pro like the standart camera app. But the ability to export .tiff-files and HQ-JPEG's (up to 12 mb!) really make up for every little flaw this app has. Also, all the features are well explained in an in-app-manual, which is also a great plus for a bit more complicated camera app like this.

PS: I might show more examples and do some and comparisons of the standart camera app and 645 Pro in the near future since the one I posted might now show its full potential.
