Correct your Olloclip lens distortion with Ollocorrect

If you own the Olloclip 3-in-1 lens for the iPhone 4 or 4S, then you probably already know about the problem of the so called "barrel distortion". This is especially obvious when using the wide-angle lens, which is why i haven't been using that lens very often. Now the creators of Olloclip have released a brand-new app called "Ollocorrect" which is supposed to fix this issue.

Every lens has its own weakness, which totally doesnt mean they are bad:
  • Wide angle lenses produce a "barrel distortion", which makes straight lines appear curved.
  • Fish Eye lenses produce an even stronger barrel distortion
  • Macro lenses cause a pin cushion distortion, which is really obvious in the corners of your pictures.
For these two kind of distortion, Ollocorrect has its own way to fix them. For the barrel distortion, the app kinds of  'unfolds' the photo so the lines get straight just like they are supposed to be. For the cushion distortion, Ollocorrect straightens the photo to make it look more geometrically natural.
It also reduces the vignette-effect of all 3 lenses, which sometimes appear (look at the top right corner of my example picture).

Its actually really easy to use. All you have to do is open your image from the camera roll (you can even take pictures with the app if you wish), and choose whether it was taken with the Wide-angle, Fisheye or Macro lens. Then simply tap the distortion correction button and the app does the rest.

The app really does a wonderful job, except for the fact that the final image is cropped. As you can see the guy in the left disappeared after processing the photo with Ollocorrect. But this cannot be avoided, so i would say it is still a great outcome.
Since this app is free, there is no reason not download it if you own the Olloclip.
