Camera+ - App review

Camera+ is one of the top rated and downloaded photo-apps in the App store of all times. Many people used this app (before 645 Pro) as a camera replacement and was simply one of the reasons photography with iPhone's got so famous.

Now there are several reasons for this. First of all, the camera app has alot of great features that the standart one does not have, eg. burst mode, timer, etc. But in my opinion the real game changer were the filters and all the editing options. Now of course you can do all the trivial stuff like cropping, flipping and all that. But what really stands out are the scenes and the filters. The reason for its success is that the lead developer and creator, John Casasanta, knew exactly what people wanted and expected from an iPhone app, and understands the rules behind viral marketing for software sold on the App Store. Despite of a 4-month ban that kicked Camera+ out of the App Store due to a functionality the developers shouldn’t have implemented and hidden without telling Apple, the app has been an example of modern success in the App Store, granting its developers a renowned position in the top charts with millions of copies sold worldwide.

So lets check it out with my example photo i have taken some days ago:

Unedited photo

Scenes:
Camera+ offers 16 completely different scenes, so are very likely to find the perfect one for your photo. These scenes add a certain mood to your picture that you wouldnt be able to get from simple filters. The option that really stands out here is clarify, which makes almost every photo more vivid and clearer. Very cool single-tap enhancement that is easy to use and makes your photo instantly look better! I used sunset for my picture, since it was the most related one to the mood.

Filters:
Again, Camera+ gives you 27 adjustable filters, and if you are willing to pay another 0,79€ you get another 9 analog filters. You can try them out before buying them, so you can see if they fit your style or not. The 27 original filters are all seperated in 3 different categories: Color, Retro and Special. The creators of this app claim they are all made from professional photographers. And as far as my opinion goes, this is absolutely true. The filters cover all important styles so i am sure you will find something you like.

I <3 Analog

You can simply adjust the intensity of the filter by using the slider.

My thoughts on Camera+:
If you enjoy an app that lets you fix and enhance your phots really quick, this app is perfect for you. It does everything you need and it does it really simple. You dont even need instructions with this app because it is so easy to handle.
Yet, i rather use my iPad to edit my pictures, and sadly Camera+ isnt adjusted to the iPad's screen size. This makes it a bit uncomfortable to use. But if you only use your iPhone to edit your pictures, then totally go for this app! You won't regret it.

Right now Camera+ is available for 0,79€ on the App Store.
